GIS Certificate Program
The Certificate Program in Geographic Information Science is off to a good start. Each semester over 40 students take introductory GIS courses at either CAS or CGPS. In addition, we have run classes in Mobile GIS/GPS, ArcObjects Programming, Spatial Analysis with GIS, and Remote Sensing.
Led by Dr. Brian Rizzo, the Geography Department worked with faculty at CGPS and the Departments of Earth and Environmental Science, Computer Science, and Historic Preservation to design the program. The program and the individual courses will be available to all undergraduates on both campuses as well as to professionals seeking to improve or augment their existing GIS knowledge.
To receive the GIS certificate, students must complete the following program (minimum of 18 credit hours):
Introductory Coursework
GISC 200: Introduction to GIS or
EESC 205: Computer Applications in Environmental Science and Geology or
GEOG 250: Introduction to GIS and Cartography
GIS and Spatial Analysis
GEOG 351: Applications in GIS or
GISC 220: Spatial Analysis, Statistics, and Modeling
Programming in GIS
GISC 350: ArcObjects Programming
One Elective course
GEOG 255: Mobile GIS and GPS or
GEOG 340: Remote Sensing and Image Interpretation or
GISC 390: Geodatabases
