SEDAAG Sessions Commemorate 50th

The upcoming (November 22-24) annual meeting of the Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers (SEDAAG) will feature two sessions organized by Dawn Bowen to mark the 50th Anniversary of Geography at Mary Washington.

In these sessions, Mary Washington Geography alumni and current faculty will present ongoing research in both physical and human geography.  

Derek Alderman, professor of Geography at East Carolina University and current President of SEDAAG sees "the celebration of the Mary Washington geography department's 50th anniversary as a major milestone for the Division and, of course, the University of Mary Washington."  He also notes "Mary Washington's geography program has produced a particularly impressive array of professional geographers over the years, including major leaders in the fields of environmental and political geography."

In addition to papers by 4 current Mary Washington faculty, 7 accomplished geography alumni will present in these sessions.  These include: Dr. Burrell Montz (1973), professor and chair of Geography at ECU, Dr. Jonathan Leib (1984), associate professor of Geography at ODU, Peter Chirco (1993), Geographer at USGS, Dr. Richard Russo (1993), Stephen O'Connell (1998), instructor at UMW, instructor at University of Maryland, Dr. Sarah Hinman (2000),assistant professor of History at Idaho State, and Stuart Geiger, Geographer at Dewberry.
