The Henrico County Department of Planning is an award-winning agency that is at the forefront of many current land use planning issues.  The department is now recruiting undergraduate and graduate students for its Fall 2009 Internship Program.

The internship is designed to enhance and complement the student's classroom experience.  The program gives qualified students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and course-work to a variety of land use planning issues.  Interns will rotate through four of the department's divisions - Comprehensive Planning, Development Review and Design, Code Administration, and Planning Systems - and will be assigned tasks designed to assist the department in achieving its goals and providing meaningful, real-world work experiences to the student.  Examples of work assignments could include assisting in the review and analysis of rezoning requests, helping prepare small area plans, reviewing plans of development and requests for parcel subdivision, and preparing case materials for the Board of Zoning Appeals.  Students will also be given the opportunity to interact with county staff, commissioners, developers, and the public.
